windows to the past, gateway to the future dedicated may 1, 1999 tucson, arizona

some of what the press has to say about the tucson tilographic murals:
the arizona daily star devoted its front page to this article covering the dedication of the artwork
three days later, the star began their editorial, "Murals of Memory," with the paragraph: "Who says publicly funded street art is a waste of money? Proof positive to the contrary can now be seen along the new underpass where Broadway swoops into downtown. There, 14 larger-than life Tucson street scenes tiled onto a concrete wall confirm beautifully how strong roadside art can touch and unify a community."
almost exactly a year earlier, the star ran this article announcing my intentions for the project and opening the public call for submissions of street photos.
the tucson weekly's 1999 annual Best of Tucson issue awarded the murals two prizes in their readers' poll: Best New Public Art Commission and Best Mural, and named stephen farley Best Visual Artist.
their 2000 Best of Tucson readers' poll once again awarded this Broadway artwork the Best Mural and again named stephen farley Best Visual Artist.
the arizona daily star's inaugural Readers' Favorites readers' poll named the murals as the Favorite Piece of Public Art or Sculpture.
